Friends on First
Who are we?

Friends on First is a resource center serving consumers with serious and persistent mental illness.  Friends on First is supported and funded by the South Central Community Based Initiative (SCCBI).  Watonwan County is one of ten counties in the initiative.  Other counties are:  Frreborn, Blue Earth, Nicollet, Sibley, Brown, Martin, Faribault, Rice and LeSueur.

The mission of the SCCBI is to facilitate each consumers recovery by improving the quality of life by assisting them to assume increasing responsibility over their lives and to function as actively as possible in the community.

Benefits

Friends on First offers many different educational, social, and recreational activities to members.  Some of the 10 county activities include:  Twins games, Science museum, state fair, MN zoo, Mall of America, bowling, and many more.

Locally, we have social recreation group every Tuesday from1 - 3 pm.  We have monthly cooking class, walk group, crafts, movies, thrift shopping, park visits, monthly cleaning and many more activies.

We encourage our members to give back to the community.  We have done numerous volunteer projects and continue to do so. We have open time to the public every Thursday from 11:30 - 1:30 pm.


Requirements
If you are 18 years of age of older and have been diagnosed with a severe and persistent mental illness, you may quality for membership.  You may contact the Friends on First Resource Center at 507-375-4453 or Watonwan County Human Services (Adult Mental Health Division) at 507-375-3294.
